Lust for Lit: The Help

oh to be here. via

All of my life I've loved to read and discovering a new great book. Right now, however, I'm swamped with finals, projects (group projects in particular make me gag), and papers and am unable to find the time to read a good book for enjoyment. One book that I'm dying to read when summer is finally upon us is The Help by Kathryn Stockett.

The book follows Skeeter Phelan, an aspiring writer, during the early civil rights movement in Mississippi. Skeeter partners with local African American maids in the community to write a tell-all book about the maids' trials and tribulations and how they're expected to raise white children, but not even allowed to use the same bathroom as their employers. The book seems like it will be very uplifting and inspiring, and I love any sort of historical fiction.

There's also a film version of the novel coming out in August, so I'll need to hurry and read up before it debuts! Emma Stone is Skeeter, and her casting (I hearted Easy A) makes me even more excited for this summer flick. Check out the trailer below:

Have you read The Help? Do you have any recommendations for my summer reading list?
